OK. So fire was the accidental first image of the elements series.
Months ago, exasperated and annoyed at myself for not shooting as much creative work as I should have been, I forced myself in my back yard with my camera in hand and really no idea of what I wanted to shoot. It was Bay Area winter time, so naturally it was warm and the sun was bright. I began to play around with a few outfit options I had, as well as some leftover leaves on the ground and just went ham on as many ideas as I could muster up.
In the end, I landed on this image. There was something very unassuming about my expression and hand positions. I started making a dress out of the yellow and red leaves on the ground, and in post-processing I started cloning the leaves to finish out the dress concept I had in mind. But something about the fiery leaves, red lips, and Daenerys Targaryen-like skin just struck me as really warm and earthly. With the "Mother of Dragons" fire born scene from Game of Thrones in the back of my mind... I decided to have some fun. I reddened my eyes, cooled my skin tone, and started creating fire. By the time I was done I was in awe of what I had created.
So with a fiery photo in hand, I decided I would try my hand at creating images inspired by all the elements! And thus, my mini series was born.
